When the stain on my table-top has dried, I am ready to proceed with sealing it with my preferred topcoat General Finishes High Performance water based topcoat in a Semi-Gloss finish. I wiped down my table with a microfiber cloth and then used a Tack Cloth to make sure I had an absolutely lint free surface before applying my topcoat.

I like to use a paint pad applicator to use smooth, even strokes going with the grain. I prefer to pour a generous amount on my surface and smooth it out making sure I have a wet film. You do not want to overwork your product, just apply a generous coat and move on. I will apply 4 coats of topcoat waiting 2-4 hours and sanding lightly between each coat using a 400 grit sandpaper. Do not sand the final topcoat.
